However, this holiday is the holiday that Jonathan finds most ridiculous. The only thing Jonathan and Gabriella have in common is a healthy dose of mutual hatred. They also work together at Bailey Bookstore, the city's most popular independent bookstore. But when the shop's owners reveal the dire financial picture, Jonathan and Gabby have another unfortunate thing in common: the looming threat of unemployment. As the expenses at the bookstore get shorter and the Baileys' demands occupy their minds, Jonathan and Gabby realize that one of them will soon be removed from the payroll unless a miracle happens. Neither of them have any intention of resigning. So they make a deal: In December, the one who sells more will stay, the loser will resign.
